It appears Jean Morrison really does get around. Following a bunch of successful performances around town and a whole lot of songwriting hours behind him, Jean has hand picked some of the most proficient musicians in Durban to work with on his upcoming debut EP which will be recorded at Tropical Sweat Studios in Durban. “Perez’s” Michael Goddard will lay down the drums while “Butter’s” Roly Struckmeyer will play bass. Michael Goddard has toured the country many times with Perez and according to Jean “is one of the greatest f***ing drummers I’ve ever seen in my life”. Roly Struckmeyer has also toured with Perez as their bassist and sound engineer and his fat-textured grooves will definitely add some chunk to the record. “Squeal’s” Dave Birch will produce and engineer the record and will be highly involved in the arrangement and creative process. Dave Birch is the most sought after producer in the country at the moment and has already produced South Africa’s biggest rock bands such as ‘The Parlotones’, ‘Evolver’ and ‘Perez’. When asked about the musical direction of the EP, Jean responded “The EP will be acoustic-rock based with a hint of melodic edge”. Rehearsals and pre-production are scheduled to get underway in August.
